Criating the Future

Sauk Creek Sebastian has been busy “criating” the next generation and the proof, they say, is in the progeny. This six-time color champion now has almost 40 cria on the ground, all of whom exhibit his strong bone and rock-solid conformation. He is well known for his signature density, deep amplitude crimp and soft hand and his sweet, calm disposition. It’s easy to spot Sebastian offspring with their distinct fawn coloring and grey muzzle.

Judge Mike Safley called Sebastian “robust” when he awarded him with a color championship at The Great Midwest Alpaca Festival.

Sebastian’s famous sire, JSFI Dakota, who died recently, won eight get-of-sire awards. Sebastian picked up his first get-of-sire trophy at the 2010 Great Midwest Alpaca Festival. Dakota, the son of Magical Farm’s PPeruvian Emilio, passed on his strong bone and fleece characteristics. Sebastian’s buttery soft fleece has incredible staple length, density, deep amplitude crimp and soft hand. His histogram reads: AFD=19.4 SD=4.4 CV=22.4% CF=98.4% Curve=39.

Sauk Creek’s second herdsire is Goldsmith’s Peruvian Sirius. He’s a big-boned guy, conformationally solid with a typey head and his sire’s presence and spunk. He has a unique crimpy, well-defined and uniform fleece with long staple length and incredible density.

Sirius seems to be taking after his sire, NWA Ltd. Accoyo’s Goldsmith, in producing offspring that take the color of the dam. Reggie, a handsome dark brown boy from Rambling Rose Alpacas, has won two color championships. Reggie’s fleece is incredibly dense with high luster and a tight crimp that goes all the way to the tips. He is something quite special. A second boy, Ziggy, born this summer with similar luster and density, is medium brown with dark points. He makes his debut in the show ring at the 2011 Great Midwest Alpaca Festival in Madison, Wisconsin April 30-May 1. We are very pleased with what we’ve seen thus far.

While Sirius holds a top spot on Sauk Creek’s stud row, we’re also offering him for sale. If you’re a smaller farm looking for a reasonably priced and top quality herd sire, Sirius is your guy. He comes with impressive genetics. His sire NWA Ltd. Accoyo’s Goldsmith has produced some amazing colored offspring.?
